Awaken Music is the original music ministry of Awaken Church. Awaken Church is a multi-campus congregation with 8 San Diego locations, a location in Salt Lake City, one in Boise, Idaho, and another in Seattle, Washington. Awaken Church was founded in 2005 when two Australian missionaries, Jurgen and Leanne Matthesius, arrived in San Diego with their young children and a few suitcases to plant a church. Since its inception, the church has experienced incredible growth and expansion. The mission of Awaken Church is to plant FRESH, REAL, and POWERFUL churches that are marked by an obsessive love for God, radical faith, and a hunger for the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jurgen and Leanne have always held fast to the belief that the Word of God in our mouths is as powerful as the Word of God in God’s mouth because it’s His Word. One of the chief aims of Awaken Music is to weaponize God’s Word by writing and producing captivating songs that are saturated with the deep truths of scripture, so that people all over the world can be equipped with faith-filled anthems to push back darkness in the world. As the cultural tides continue to ebb and flow, the God of Heaven is immovable, steadfast, and unshaken. Our hope is to make music that draws people closer to Him and awakens Christian courage within them to live a bold, radical, miracle-marked life of faith in service to the Savior King, Jesus Christ.
